How to Use Face and Body Art Stencils?

Using face and body art stencils might feel complicated at first, but once you get used to them you will see how fun is to work with them. Simply load your face painting sponge with some face paint. Make sure your sponge is almost completely dry so that the paint doesn't bleed under the stencil. Pat your sponge gently making sure not to press too hard and lift the stencil carefully. You can also use face painting pressed powders and a smoothie or velvet blender for an even easier application. If using water activated face paints, try using creamier paints like Superstar or Paradise, since those are easier to use with face painting stencils.

You can read our blog Face Painting with Stencils - Instructions and Best Stencils Guide to get a lot more details and ideas on how to use, care for, and display your stencils.

How to Clean Body Art Stencils?

In order to clean your face painting stencils simply run them under water; you can also clean them gently with a soapy sponge, making sure none of the loose ends get snagged by the sponge, since stencils can bend easily.

What are Face Painting Stencils made of?

Most face and body painting stencils are made of a thin and flexible plastic called Mylar. This flexible material allows for the stencil to bend around the surface of the face so application is easier, and you can keep the stencil from popping off the skin. Most stencils have a thickness of 7 millimeters, although some can be thinner and some a bit thicker.

Can I re-use My Stencils?

Yes, all of the body art stencils that we sell on this page can be re-used thousands of times, as long as you take good care of them. The only issue you might encounter eventually is that the smaller parts that stick out might start to bend or loose shape after some long term use. Other than that, these face painting stencils should last you for a very long time.

Can I use these Stencils for Airbrush?

All of our body art stencils in this page can be used for airbrushing, but some might be better suited than other for this task based mostly on the shield area around the design. The larger the shield area, the easier they are to use with an airbrush.

Can I use Alcohol Based Face and Body Paints with my Stencils?

You can use alcohol based, hybrid, water based, wax based, glycerin based and all other kinds of face and body paints with your stencils. Some are easier to use than others, but all of them work, and none will damage your stencils.

Why do Stencils come in Some Many Different Shapes?

Because they have different uses. Some are meant to wrap around the forehead, while others are meant to be used mainly as a center piece right in between the eye brows, or by the corner of the eye. Others are meant to cover large areas of the body, or wrap around the side of the face. Choose the stencil that better fits your needs based on their size and shape.
